Logistics barcode generator

GS1-128, ITF-14, SSCC-18. The barcodes on cases, cartons and pallets moving through a supply chain, all defined by GS1 so every trading partner reads the same fields. ITF-14 carries just the GTIN of a carton, printed large with bearer bars for corrugated board. GS1-128 adds batch, expiry, serial and other application identifiers to a case label. SSCC-18 is GS1-128 with AI (00), identifying one pallet or shipment.

3 · Size and print

At 300 dpi each bar is 6 printer dots = 0.508 mm. The PNG uses exactly that.

  • Enter the GS1 data as (AI)value pairs, for example (01)09501234567891(17)261231(10)LOT42.
  • This barcode is valid and will scan. It is only a registered product code if GS1 licensed the number to you (or your brand owner assigned it). Retailers and marketplaces such as Amazon check numbers against GS1's database; made-up numbers are rejected there.

SVG and PDF are vectors at the exact millimetre size shown. The PNG uses a whole number of printer dots per bar so nothing blurs. Generated in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

GS1-128

Code 128 with GS1 structure: application identifiers in brackets carry the GTIN, expiry, batch, serial and more, so any scanner in the supply chain reads the same fields. Every AI is checked for length and format before the symbol is drawn.

What are application identifiers?

Two-to-four digit codes that say what the following data is: (01) is the GTIN, (10) the batch, (17) the expiry date, (21) the serial number, (00) the SSCC pallet id. The generator checks each one.

Why does it reject my GTIN?

AI (01) needs exactly 14 digits with a valid check digit. Pad a 13-digit EAN with a leading zero.

How is it different from Code 128?

Same bars, plus a special start character that tells scanners the data follows GS1 rules. Use plain Code 128 for internal codes, GS1-128 when trading partners scan it.

ITF-14

The carton barcode: a 14-digit GTIN printed large enough to scan on corrugated board, with the bearer bars the specification requires. Enter 13 digits and the check digit is added.

What are the thick bars around it?

Bearer bars. GS1 makes them mandatory on ITF-14: they stop scanners reading a partial symbol and even out print pressure on cardboard.

What number goes in it?

A GTIN-14: a packaging indicator digit (1 to 8) plus the 12 digits of the product's EAN, then a new check digit. The generator calculates the check digit.

How big?

For cartons, bars 1.016 mm wide and 32 mm tall is the target. The generator defaults to that.

SSCC-18

The Serial Shipping Container Code that identifies one pallet or shipment, encoded as GS1-128 with AI (00). Enter 17 digits and the check digit is added.

What is an SSCC?

An 18-digit number that uniquely identifies one logistic unit, usually a pallet, made from your GS1 company prefix plus a serial you allocate.

Is this the whole pallet label?

No, just the barcode. A GS1 logistics label also carries the SSCC in human-readable form and usually the contents.

Does it need GS1?

Yes, the company prefix inside it comes from GS1.
